Apple Divination + a 7-Card Spread for the Venus Cazimi

On the Venus Cazimi, I cut an apple, counted its seeds, and pulled seven cards. Here’s the ritual, what each seed number means, and how the cards answered one question: What am I ready to let in?

My ritual spread for the apple divination

“What would you let in if you didn’t have to defend for it or labour for it first?”

I woke up to this one

This morning I got to start the day with a ritual. The flowers shown in this ritual space are from the wedding The Dirty Pioneers performed at last night at the Beautiful Elora Mill, and the gold silk the whole spread sits on was a gift from one of the girls at Witch Camp. It felt good to pull a few pieces of my world into one space before heading into the shower to alchemize it all.

ritual apple spread

I learned this apple divination from Alexie Gigi @444highvibrations on Instagram. She frames Oct 23-24 as a Venus cazimi, meaning Venus meets the Sun, and describes it as closing one Venus cycle and opening a new one around receiving, love, beauty, and creativity. If you’d like to try it yourself, here’s how I did it. (see Instagram reel here)

The ritual

1. Wash an apple and cut it across its middle (around its “waist”) to reveal a five-pointed star. 2. Read the star as the five elements: air, water, fire, earth, and spirit. 3. Count the seeds in both halves, counting a sliced seed once. 4. Name five things you want to nurture, as specifically as you can. 5. Add a little honey and cinnamon, say your intention, and eat the apple.

What your seed count means

1 - Beginning: start the desire you keep postponing. 2 - Reciprocity: notice who reaches back. 3 - Expression: make something simply because it’s beautiful. 4 - Devotion: make one small promise to yourself that lasts. 5 - Freedom: you’re allowed to want something different. 6 - Receiving: let it land without earning it first. 7 - Inner knowing: write your own view down before asking others. 8 - Worth: find where you give to everyone but yourself. 9 - Release: stop tending what’s complete. 10 - Renewal: choose one thing differently this time. 0 - Possibility: let the question stay open. If you count more than 10, add the digits down to one.

Apple with cinnamon and honey cut throught the middle to reveal the star.

My apple: air 3, fire 2, water 1, earth empty, spirit 1. That’s 7, Inner Knowing. In Holistic Tarot’s number table, 7 is also analytical thought and spiritual wisdom.

My seven-card spread

I held one question while shuffling: What am I ready to let in as this new Venus cycle begins?

1. Six of Swords, what I’m carrying in: moving from turbulent waters toward balance. 2. Three of Swords (reversed), what’s complete: heartbreak turning toward healing. 3. Knight of Swords, what blocks receiving: speed and armor, moving fast and defensively. 4. Eight of Cups, my inner knowing: walking away from what once made me happy. 5. Nine of Wands, what to nurture: the effort is proven, and the guard has a reason. 6. Queen of Wands, how to let it in: confident, visible warmth. 7. The World, where it’s heading: completion and integration.

The pattern

The cards mirrored my apple exactly: three Swords (air 3), two Wands (fire 2), one Cups (water 1), no Pentacles (earth 0), and one Major (spirit 1). Seven cards for a seven apple.

How it landed

The first thing I noticed was how much air sat at the top: three Swords, all showing movement, release, or change. The Six of Swords felt like moving away from harsher waters, and the reversed Three felt like the healing that comes after loss. The Knight of Swords felt like heading toward something almost in defense. Then the Eight of Cups looked so much like the Six that it felt like leaving something behind all over again. The Nine of Wands was the labor and effort that went into it all. I took real comfort in the black cat at the Queen of Wands’ feet, in her power and her sunflower. The World brought me joy and finished the spread beautifully.

A question to carry: What would you let in if you didn’t have to defend for it or labour for it first?
